Leorik Adrien Tabris (Born 9:10 Dragon), commonly known as the "Hero of Ferelden", is a veteran of the Fifth Blight, former Warden-Commander of Ferelden, and the protagonist of Dragon Age: Origins.

Background[]

Born to Cyrion and Adaia Tabris, Lorik grew up confined within Denerim's Alienage and longed to test it's boundaries from a young age.

Adaia was a veteran of the Orlesian civil war having once been the youngest members of the Night Elves - a company of elven guerrilla fighters working underneath Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir. Though the troupe's contributions to history had largely been whitewashed, the Alienages remembered and kept their descendants in higher regard. Adaia trained Lorik in the styles she'd picked up during her time among the Ferelden army.

His father Cyrion worked as a servant for Bann Loren, who often visited Highever for business. It was on one of those stays that Cyrion met Adaia, apprentice blacksmith to the Castle Cousland, and the two began an on-and-off romance that lasted for some years whenever chance brought them back together. Though Adaia's family pushed her to marry a local boy with historical ties, she defied them and eloped with Cyrion to Denerim.

Adaia's baby was born a couple of miles outside the Denerim Arling as the two made the move to the capital, with their carriage driver and fellow passengers helping with the delivery. They named their baby Leorik, after a deceased soldier Adaia had fought with in the Orlesian Occupation.

With both parents working demanding jobs Lorik was sometimes left with little supervision. In an effort to help provide for the family Lorik began conning the rare stranger by harassing visitors into buying fake elven trinkets, taking tours of the Alienage hovels, and paying non-existent tolls, among other attempts that failed, but Lorik proved to be charismatic enough to talk his way out of most trouble. Adaia opted to train Lorik in self-defence not long after - to deter him from that more dangerous path or simply to better defend himself while doing it - and Lorik began to adopt his mother's fighting style.

Some years later a group of drunken guards cornered Adaia and a few others on there way home and attempted to apprehend them for fabricated crimes. When Adaia and others protested, the guards overpowered them and the rebelling elves, Adaia included, were killed in the street. Adaia's death brought Lorik and Cyrion closer after some years of tension between them.

Involvement[]

Conscription into the Grey Wardens[]

Much to his chagrin Cyrion hired a matchmaker for his son and Lorik found himself soon to be wed to Nesiara, a promising artisan from Highever's alienage. Despite his apprehension Lorik agreed to go along with it as not to disappoint his father, or his cousin Soris who was set to be married the same day.

On the day of the wedding, Lorik was comforted by his cousin and closest friend Shianni before his nerves got the best of him. Lorik and Nesiara met for the first time not long before their wedding itself, where Lorik blurted out how unenthusiastic he was.

The wedding celebrations were interrupted by a local lord named Vaughan, the son of the Arl of Denerim, who's men had been thrown out earlier before by Shianni for harassing an innocent girl. As payback Vaughan and his henchman abducted the women present for the wedding including Shianni, Nesiara and Soris' bride-to-be.

Though the Hahren Valendrian was against it, Lorik and Soris hatched a careful rescue attempt with the help of an elf that worked at Vaughan's father's estate. The mission didn't stay careful for long and soon became a bloodbath, resulting in a dozen guards as well as Vaughan dead by Lorik and Soris' hands, but Shianni and the surviving women were saved.

When they returned to the Alienage, guards were not far behind and Lorik opted to take full responsibility for the murder of a human noble. Before Lorik was escorted away in chains the visiting Grey Warden Duncan interrupted and officially conscripted him into his ranks. Though it meant he was free from the charges, it meant immediately leaving his life at the Alienage behind after short goodbyes to his family.

The Fifth Blight[]

Lorik decided to head to their closest target first, and arrived in Redcliffe in the middle of an undead seige - with dwindling supplies, resolve and time, Lorik, Alistair and the others set to work trying to boulster the town's defenses.

When faced with Connor's situation Lorik opted to risk the trek to Kinloch Hold, but only found a disaster even worse than Redcliffe waiting for him. Lorik chose to help Wynne save Irving, and shot down Cullen and the Knight-Commanders' plans for Annulment where he could.

Connor was saved thanks to the intervention of the Circle Mages, but moreso Jowan's choice to defeat the desire demon personally and try to redeem himself. Connor recovered, but the same couldn't be said for Arl Eamon... and so the two surviving wardens chose to join the search for the Urn of Sacred Ashes.

After the Blight[]

Lorik travelled to Orlais on invitation by Empress Celene - a celebration of the Grey Wardens and the defeat of the Fifth Blight was to be held at the Warden's fortress in Jader, and many Wardens as well as his old party were to attend. Lorik was encouraged to go by his then-husband Zevran, but only ended up agreeing if Zevran came as his plus one. He brought along Sigrun, Oghren, Odette and Nathaniel, with Kavir and Velanna holding down the Vigil.
