Ser Garrett Hawke (born 9:06 Dragon[1][2]), known simply as "Hawke", is the eldest son of Malcolm Hawke and Lady Leandra Amell, older brother of twins Carver and Bethany, head of House Amell, and the Champion of Kirkwall. He is also the main protagonist of Dragon Age II.

After suffering a disastrous defeat against the darkspawn during the Battle of Ostagar, he and his family fled from Lothering to escape the approaching horde, leaving Ferelden behind for Kirkwall in the Free Marches. Initially starting out as an impoverished nameless refugee, Hawke financed a Deep Roads expedition into the Primeval Thaig and become a wealthy nobleman. His rise to power was further cemented by defeating the Qunari during the First Battle of Kirkwall and killing the Arishok in single-combat. For his role in saving the city, Hawke was subsequently declared the first "Champion of Kirkwall" and as such became one of the most powerful people in the city. He was also considered by the nobility to be an ideal candidate for the position of Viscount.

Three years after the Qunari invasion, relations between the Templar Order led by Knight-Commander Meredith Stannard and the Circle of Magi led by First Enchanter Orsino grew increasingly tense at an alarming rate. A political and social moderate, Hawke found himself struggling to maintain a peaceful truce between both sides. Tensions reached a peak and exploded into widespread violence when Anders, an apostate mage and one of Hawke’s companions, destroyed the Chantry in Kirkwall and killed hundreds, including Grand Cleric Elthina. When Meredith immediately invoked the Right of Annulment to execute every mage in the city, both the templars and mages petitioned for the Champion’s assistance as both factions were now engaged in open warfare. Unable to remain neutral any longer, Hawke chose to defend the mages. While Hawke had no magical abilities, he was at the heart of events that ultimately led to the beginning of the mage rebellion. Either way, this incited the Circles of Magi in other nations to rise up against the Templar Order and the Chantry on a world-wide scale.

Despite restoring the peace after the mage uprising, Hawke was ultimately forced to kill both Knight-Commander Meredith and Orsino to achieve it. Knowing that templar reinforcements were on the way, Hawke left both Kirkwall and his companions behind and went into a self-imposed exile near the Vinmark Mountains, disappearing without a trace.

Four years later, Hawke came out of hiding to investigate the origins of red lyrium with Senior Warden Jean-Marc Stroud’s assistance. He would later fight alongside Inquisitor Maxwell Trevelyan during the Inquisition’s siege at Adamant Fortress against the Venatori to free the Orlesian Grey Wardens from the influence of his old enemy Corypheus. After the victory, Hawke traveled to Weisshaupt fortress in the Anderfels to inform the Grey Wardens of what had transpired.

He eventually returned to Kirkwall in 9:44 to help rebuild the city-state’s damaged infrastructure alongside his good friend Varric Tethras and was re-instated as Kirkwall’s Champion.


Garrett Wyatt Hawke was born on 5 Justinian 9:06 Dragon as the eldest son of Malcolm Hawke and Lady Leandra Amell. His father and younger sister, Bethany, were apostate mages; thus, the family was constantly on the move, avoiding templars whenever they could. In 9:20, the family settled in the village of Lothering, building a home on the outskirts and making a life where they wouldn’t forever be on the run. Though Leandra worried constantly that the templars would one day catch up with them, Malcolm kept his abilities a secret and taught Bethany to do the same.

His mother, Leandra, was a noblewoman from Kirkwall in the Free Marches. In addition to her duties as a housewife, Leandra was responsible for tutoring her children. Of all three of the Hawke children, Garrett was by far the most talented. His interest in history garnered a broader appreciation of what was important. At age 14, Garrett was given his first sword and mastered swordsmanship techniques with relative ease. He spent a great deal of time with Bethany, playing with her and often protecting her from people suspecting her of apostacy. At the same time, however, Garrett had a sibling rivalry with Carver―mostly because of Carver's jealousy of feeling inferior to his older brother.

In 9:23, with his talents soon being recognized, Hawke enlisted in the Fereldan Royal Army and was commissioned as a lieutenant under Captain Varel.

His father Malcolm died of illness in 9:27, leaving Garrett and Leandra responsible for the family's welfare.

When the Fifth Blight began in the Korcari Wilds, Garrett and his brother Carver served in King Cailan’s regiment. The darkspawn horde spilled from the Korcari Wilds meant their home would be quickly overrun if the darkspawn were not defeated immediately. However, the Battle of Ostagar ended with Teyrn Loghain’s betrayal and King Cailan’s death. Garrett and Carver barely escaped the chaos with their lives, and returned to Lothering to get their mother and sister out with only moments to spare, escaping the darkspawn attack.


Escaping the Blight[]

Around the year 9:30 Dragon, the Fifth Blight had just begun and, following their victory at Ostagar, the darkspawn fell upon the village of Lothering. The Hawke family was among the last to escape alive as refugees. Hawke’s mother Leandra suggests that they flee to Kirkwall, far to the north for refuge where her younger brother Gamlen holds the Amell family estate. On the road they stumble into Aveline Vallen and her husband, Ser Wesley Vallen, also survivors of the massacre and were able to escape the Blight with their help. However, though they fought through many darkspawn, victory did not come without a heavy price: Aveline’s husband Wesley contracted the darkspawn taint and died of his illness; at the same time, Hawke’s brother, Carver, was killed by an ogre while protecting his family and never reached the Free Marches. Surrounded by darkspawn, Hawke’s party was rescued by an attacking high dragon. The dragon turns out to be Flemeth, the notorious Witch of the Wilds, who offers them safe passage to Gwaren in exchange for a favor. Left with no choice, Hawke agreed.

The Hawkes boarded a ship to Kirkwall but finds that the city is filled with an influx of Ferelden immigrants, all fleeing the Blight. The family’s first years in Kirkwall were difficult: the city guard has been turning refugees away and banning them from entering the city. Worse, they discover that Gamlen gambled away the Amell estate and lost the family fortune. However, he is able to get a contact to bribe Hawke’s party into the city, but only if they agree to work off a tremendous debt. Hawke has no choice but to agree to be under the contact’s employ. The family lived in poverty, forced into indentured servitude in return for entrance to the city. To pay off the debt, Hawke was forced to work for a gang of smugglers and mercenaries. All the while, Garrett and Bethany did their best to hide Bethany’s magic from the templars.

Deep Roads Expedition

One year later, Garrett has managed to work off the debt but still lacks the funds needed to properly care for the entire family. An opportunity eventually struck in the form of a dwarf named Bartrand Tethras, who was planning an expedition to the Deep Roads. Garrett was persuaded by Bartrand’s brother, Varric Tethras, to become a business partner in their expedition. It was a long shot, but with gold gained from the expedition, Garrett learned he could free his family from its criminal creditors—and further templar scrutiny. Along the way, he met a former Grey Warden named Anders who possessed detailed maps of the Deep Roads. These maps were crucial to the expedition’s success; once Garrett obtained them, everything else fell quickly into place.

Afraid to lose another sibling, Garrett insisted that Bethany stay in Kirkwall rather than accompany him on the expedition. Once the group traveled into the Deep Roads, they found ancient dwarven treasure from an era before the First Blight, but also stumbled upon a statuette formed from a strange, red lyrium. Though Bartrand betrayed both him and Varric during the expedition, the treasures found within the Deep Roads have brought Garrett both fame and fortune. Upon returning home to the surface, however, Garrett found templars taking Bethany away—her magic had been discovered, and she was taken to the Circle of Magi soon after.

The Qunari Uprising

Three years later, Garrett’s status in Kirkwall has improved substantially since he assumed role as scion of the aggrandized Amell family. The gold he recovered from the Deep Roads brought back Leandra’s stately childhood home in Hightown. Garrett was soon asked by the templar Emeric to investigate the mystery of the missing women in Kirkwall. Returning home from his investigation, he learns that his mother was abducted by the white-lily serial killer while on her way to visit Gamlen. Following the killer’s trail, Garrett finds out that Leandra was murdered and pieced together with parts of other women—a deeply sinister and twisted killing. Her killer and the man responsible for all the serial killings was a blood mage named Quentin. Keeping Leandra alive with his magic, Quentin aspires to create the image of his dead wife. Overcome with grief and anger, Garrett viciously battles Quentin and his demon and undead forces. With Quentin’s downfall, his magic dissipates but Garrett could not prevent what the blood mage did to his mother. Cradled in the arms of her eldest child, Leandra tells Garrett how proud she is of him before passing away. He mourns the loss of his mother while being comforted by his friends, and holds a private funeral service for her.

The news of Leandra’s tragic death was a part of a critical problem facing Kirkwall: rising tensions between the city’s mages, who felt increasingly oppressed, and templars, who grew increasingly suspicious of their activities. Adding to the strain, a large contingent of Qunari had also established themselves in Kirkwall, much to the discomfort of the city’s denizens. After their dreadnaught was shipwrecked several years ago, a group of stranded Qunari was allowed to remain in a cordoned-off area in Lowtown. As time passed, the Qunari made no effort to return home to Par Vollen, and offered no explanation about why they remained. Tensions soon reach a boiling point when Mother Petrice, convinced the Qunari were a threat to the Chantry’s faith, incited violence between the Qunari and the Kirkwall populace. Garrett knew that Petrice would bring about unnecessary conflict and tried to prevent it; though he tried to stop her, Petrice orchestrated the murder of Viscount Marlowe Dumar’s son Saemus who recently converted to the Qun. When her crime was discovered, a Qunari assassin killed her.

After Saemus was murdered, Aveline, now captain of the guard, enlists Garrett’s aid in trying to arrest some criminal elves who have been granted religious sanctuary in the Qunari Compound. The Arishok of the Qunari group takes offense to the attempted arrest of his new converts and quickly lost patience with the humans of Kirkwall and ordered a counterattack, marshaling his forces to conquer the city and convert it to the Qun. They would now submit—or die. The Qunari struck hard and fast: they took to the palace in Hightown and beheaded Viscount Dumar to immediately quash any resistance. Aided by Knight-Commander Meredith Stannard and First Enchanter Orsino, Garrett managed to rally enough of the resistances forces to fight back against the Qunari, and soon stood toe-to-toe with the fearsome Qunari leader. He soon fought the Arishok in single-combat, with the fierce battle resulting in the Qunari leader’s death and the liberation of Kirkwall from its brief occupation. Without its leader, the Qunari quickly withdrew entirely from the city. Having saved Kirkwall and earned the grudging respect of the city’s templars, mages, and nobility—Garrett is crowned with the title that history remembers: the "Champion of Kirkwall."

Vinmark Mountains

Sometime during Hawke’s stay in Kirkwall, Hawke enters a secret Grey Warden prison in the Vimmark Mountains searching for a sect of the Carta who are after "the blood of the Hawke" seeking to bring it to a creature called Corypheus to wake him from slumber. After getting to the bowls of the prison Hawke sides with former Warden-Commander Larius against Senior Warden Janeka, one who wants to control Corypheus and the other who believes he should be destroyed. Corypheus proves too powerful and Hawke is forced to destroy him regardless. The Seekers of Truth attempt to investigate sometime later, but the prison has been destroyed and they are turned away by the Grey Wardens.

Chateau Haine

Hawke also joined a mysterious elf assassin, Tallis, in infiltrating the Chateau Haine and stealing a precious relic at an unspecified time. Hawke and his group take part in a traditional Orlesian Wyvern hunt. After which they fail an attempt at stealing the relic and are captured. Tallis then reveals the truth about the relic The Heart of the Many. After escaping, leaving Tallis behind, Hawke’s path eventually leads to a fight with Duke Prosper de Montfort that ends in his death. Though his death at Hawke’s hands would have normally warranted retribution from Orlais, Prosper’s dealings with the Tal-Vashoth against the Qunari if revealed would have embroiled Orlais in an impolitic scandal. He then lets Tallis leave with the true prize. At some point after returning to the Hawke Estate, Hawke writes a journal passage regarding his relationship with Tallis and whether they’ll meet again.

Mage Rebellion

Three years after Viscount Dumar’s death, Knight-Commander Meredith took stewardship of the city and blocked all attempts to appoint a new viscount. Under Meredith’s command, her stance against the mages became much harsher. After several more mages escape the Circle, Meredith tightened her grip on the mages and orders more raids, crackdowns, and unwarranted incarcerations, planning to suppress what she saw as a growing rebellion. Meanwhile, tales of insurrection from the Mage Underground have been becoming more frequent but have steadily declined to the point of almost utter annihilation due to Meredith’s harsh tactics. First Enchanter Orsino accuses Meredith of being a tyrant and urges the citizens of Kirkwall to revolt against her. The citizens of Kirkwall look to Garrett to keep the peace between the templars and mages. Meanwhile, he is also requested to protect the city from maleficarum apostates and foils a mage-templar conspiracy seeking to overthrow Meredith.

Things reach a boiling point when Anders, who had spent years fighting for justice and freedom for his fellow mages, saw that the time for negotiation was past and destroyed Kirkwall’s chantry, killing hundreds—including Grand Cleric Elthina, in order to remove the chance of a peaceful compromise. There was no forgiveness for what Anders had done, and he asked for death at Garrett’s hands. He fulfilled the troubled mage’s final request, and many others died along with Anders that day. In response to Anders' destruction of the Kirkwall Chantry, Meredith immediately invokes the Right of Annulment, demanding that every mage in Kirkwall be put to the sword. Fighting spread swiftly through the city: some mages rebelled openly, many of them succumbing to possession. Templars turned their swords on mages who rebelled—and on those who did not. Meredith orders Garrett to stand with her in purging the city, while Orsino pleads with him to defend the mages as he cited that the Circle had nothing to do with Anders’ attack on the Chantry. Garrett refused Meredith’s demands and saved many mages from templar blades, keeping them from succumbing to possession or the temptations of blood magic.

In the end, however, Orsino, desperate to defeat the Knight-Commander’s forces, uses blood magic to become a harverster. Garrett was forced to strike down the First Enchanter when the Champion believed him to have betrayed his own values by resorting to blood magic himself. The battle proved one thing: Knight-Commander Meredith had finally gone mad. Garrett saw the truth of it when Meredith unsheathed her sword—and the red lyrium idol from the Deep Roads was embedded within it. The blade fueled her hatred and paranoia, as it had for months. After a horrific battle, the red lyrium of the Knight-Commander’s sword consumed her as she died: Meredith became a statue, her face a frozen mask of horror. The Champion and his allies were soon forced to escape Kirkwall before templar reinforcements arrive, where little is known about him since.

Into exile[]

"Word of the slaughter spread quickly. The Champion’s name became a rallying cry, a reminder that the mighty templars could be defied. He had defended the mages against a brutal injustice, and many lived to tell the tale. The Circles rose up and set the world on fire. More templars arrived in Kirkwall to restore order, but we were already long gone. We vanished into the hills, and circumstance eventually forced us all to leave the Champion’s side. Well… all of us except for Isabela. You still hear the stories, of course. With each telling they grow, even if at the core remains the truth. A new legend had been born."

In the aftermath of the mage rebellion in Kirkwall, Garrett’s name becomes a rallying cry for oppressed mages everywhere. However, his story lives on in legend and song—memories of the indelible changes the Champion of Kirkwall brought to the face of Thedas. In 9:40, Varric recalls that Garrett has mysteriously disappeared and his current whereabouts are unknown, but Varric doubts that his friend is dead.

War against the Elder One[]

Joining the Inquisition

"I'm doing this for myself as much as for you. Corypheus is my responsibility. I thought I’d killed him before. This time, I’ll make sure of it."

Fearing that Divine Justinia V was planning an Exalted March on Kirkwall, Garrett and his companions left Kirkwall to spare its denizens and also to divide the Divine’s forces should she send them to hunt for him.

Eventually Garrett contacted Senior Warden Jean-Marc Stroud to help him investigate more about red lyrium. He was later contacted by his old friend Varric Tethras who introduced him to Inquisitor Maxwell Trevelyan. After answering the Inquisitor’s questions about Corypheus and how he may be related to the missing Grey Wardens, Garrett and the Inquisitor planned to rendezvous with Stroud in a smuggler’s cave in Crestwood to see what his investigation uncovered. Stroud explains that he was investigating if Corypheus could have survived fatal wounds just like an Archdemon can. Yet in the middle of his investigation, every Grey Warden in Orlais began to hear the Calling which he believes is being elicited by Corypheus. Believing that their end is near, Warden-Commander Clarel planned on using a blood magic ritual that would end all Blights before they all perished. Stroud became a fugitive for protesting Clarel’s plan and went into hiding. Stroud, Garrett, and Maxwell then scouted an ancient Tevinter ritual tower in the Western Approach to investigate a Grey Warden congregation.

Confronting the Venatori

At the tower, the party witnessed Grey Warden mages sacrificing their fellow Wardens to summon demons. They are being led by Lord Livius Erimond, a Venatori magister who convinced Clarel to use their blood magic techniques to raise a demon army to kill the Old Gods before they wake. However, the demon binding rituals Erimond taught the Grey Warden mages has a side effect of enslaving them to Corypheus, who will use them to conquer Thedas. During the confrontation, Erimond escapes to Adamant Fortress while Maxwell’s party confronts the slaved Wardens of the tower.

Garrett and Stroud joined the Inquisition as they lay siege to Adamant Fortress. They confront Erimond and Clarel about the truth of the demon binding ritual and attempted to sway the Wardens against Erimond. When Erimond summoned Corypheus’ dragon to deal with the Inquisition, Clarel had a change of heart and betrayed Erimond. The dragon attacked and a massive battle ensued. After which, the Inquisition pursued Clarel. She inflicted her wrath on Erimond but was killed by the dragon he had summoned. Her last act was casting a spell that subdued the dragon but its crash caused the ground beneath them to crumble, resulting in the party to fall off the ramparts. Maxwell used his mark to open a rift to transport the party to the Fade.

Escaping the Fade

"Those were Grey Wardens holding the Divine in that vision. Their actions led to her death."
"I assumed Corypheus had taken their minds, as you have seen him do before. Come. We can argue after we escape this dark place."

Upon physically entering the Fade, the Inquisitor finds some kind of spirit that poses as Divine Justinia V who briefs the Inquisitor that they are within the realm of a nightmare demon and that he must recover the memories it took from him. After recovering these memories, the Inquisitor remembers how the mortal Divine was sacrificed to power an orb–an orb which he picked up and gave him the mark, and how the spirit in the Divine’s form was the one who led him out of the Fade after the creation of the Breach. Once Garrett realized that the Grey Wardens had a hand in sacrificing the Divine to further Corypheus’ schemes, he became incensed and accuses them of being out of control and need to be checked. Stroud is defensive about the accusation, and argues that the Wardens were most likely mind-controlled by Corypheus and that Garrett himself has caused much chaos by causing the mage rebellion. The spirit leads the Inquisitor’s party to the rift but the Nightmare is preventing their escape and sacrifices itself to weaken the Nightmare and Maxwell’s party defeats the Aspect of the Nightmare blocking their escape. The party reaches the rift but Garrett or Stroud must stay behind to distract the Nightmare for the party to leave. Garrett offers to sacrifice himself to atone for freeing Corypheus, but Stroud sacrifices himself to atone for all the harm the Grey Wardens have done, allowing Maxwell’s party and Hawke to escape.

After Stroud’s death, Garrett travels to Weisshaupt to brief the Grey Wardens of what had transpired. However, after the Breach was sealed and Corypheus’ defeat, it is revealed that he vanished once more.

The Champion's return[]

In 9:44, Garrett returns to Kirkwall and helps Varric rebuild the city-state’s damaged infrastructure—even expressing surprise to find out his friend was voted in as the new Viscount. He resumed his role as Kirkwall’s Champion and became one of Varric’s most trusted advisors, much to Bran’s annoyance.

Personality and traits[]

"I do what I can. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like enough."

Hawke was generally kind and interested in the welfare of those around him, always treating his friends and family with respect and sought a peaceful solution to most problems he encountered. He is a man who did not seek or desire power, but rather chose to work to change how society works to make sure they are done for the betterment of others. After the devastation of Kirkwall by the Qunari during the Second Battle of Kirkwall, Hawke has shown to hold a bitter grudge against the Qunari for what they did to his home.

In regards with his relationship with his family, Hawke cares deeply about his sister Bethany but shares a sibling rivalry with his brother Carver. After losing both his father and brother, Hawke became more dedicated than ever to his family, doing the best he can to provide for his mother and sister and refusing Bethany’s request to join him in the Deep Roads Expedition, fearing for her safety. When Bethany was taken to the Gallows, he insisted on being allowed to see his sister, going up against Knight-Commander Meredith herself to accomplish this. Despite her misgivings, Meredith allowed it, but the privilege was only Hawke’s, sparking a minor resentment in his mother Leandra. After Leandra’s death, Hawke became more protective than ever and never allowed any abuses go unnoticed or unpunished. He feels it is up to him to provide for Bethany and their mother, though he cannot fathom losing any more of his family and blames himself for not being fast enough to save Leandra from Quentin or keeping Bethany safe from the Templar Order. It feels more realistic, since he still feels guilty for not being able to protect his family since his father died.

Hawke also showed no tolerance towards anyone who used the deaths of others as an excuse, particularly in one instance where Meredith mentioned Leandra who was brutally murdered by a blood mage into her stance against mages or when Anders attempted to justify his actions after blowing up the Kirkwall Chantry. During the war against Corypheus, after Hawke realized that the Grey Wardens had a hand in sacrificing the Divine to further Corypheus’ schemes, he became incensed and accuses the Grey Wardens of being corrupt. He also angrily rejected Stroud’s justifications of the Wardens’ actions regarding blood magic and comparing his own actions in Kirkwall that started the mage rebellion.


Garrett has short black hair that sweeps to the left, his bangs slanting across his forehead. He is also muscular, both as a result of genes and exercise, as well as a very active life style. He sports a short boxed beard, letting the sides stick out and often trims it to maintain it. He has a set of somewhat thing eyebrows, and his eyes are a shade of amber. His expression is usually wise, contemplative. Garrett gets most of his looks from his father, Malcolm, as he is the only member of the family that appears most like him.

I tried to get a closer look, but she disappeared into the crowd. If it was her, I’ve no clue what she’s up to. Tallis spoke of Qunari spies throughout Thedas… doing what, I wonder? Just providing information to the Qunari, or something more sinister? Unsurprisingly, mentioning the spies to those in power has earned only disbelief or indifference. Those who bothered to consider the possibility weren’t certain what could be done. They appeared unwilling to admit that the Qunari might be inclined towards subterfuge. Too dangerous a foe, if so. You’d think that after what happened in Kirkwall, it wouldn’t be such a shock. Regardless, I doubt this is the last we’ve heard from the Qunari… or from Tallis. She’ll show up again one day. That’s just the way things work out."

Dragon Age: Inquisition[]

  • (about Skyhold) "This view reminds me of my home in Kirkwall. I had a balcony that overlooked the whole city. I loved it at first. But after a while, all I could see were the people out there depending on me."
  • "Corypheus is my responsibility. I thought I’d killed him before. This time, I’ll make sure of it."
  • (about his fight with Corypheus) "I didn’t just think I killed him. When the fight was done, he was dead on the ground. Maybe his tie to the Blight somehow brought him back, or maybe it’s old Tevinter magic… but he was dead. I swear it."
  • (why he left Kirkwall) "I heard the Chantry might be sending an Exalted March to Kirkwall to put down the rebellion. I hoped that leaving would save lives and force the Divine to divide her forces to come after me. As it turned out, I needn’t have bothered. All the Circles started rising up, and the Exalted March never came."
  • (about Anders) "I don’t know if there ever was just an “Anders.” He was crazy. By the end, there was nothing left in him except this insane need to start a war no one could win."

But after watching First Enchanter Orsino destroy himself, even after I defended him, and after what happened to my own mother… It is too dangerous. Any mages who justifies its use eventually goes too far."
  • "Please, I have seen more than my share of blood magic! It is never worth the cost!"
  • (after escaping the Fade) "She was right. Without the Nightmare to control them, the mages are free, and Corypheus loses his demon army. Though as far as they’re all concerned, the Inquisitor broke the spell with the blessing of the Maker."

Aveline Vallen: "So this is what life could have been if father hadn’t been exiled. I think I’m all right with what I’ve got. And who I’ve got."
Garrett Hawke: "Right, you were born in Orlais. Lady du Lac."
Aveline Vallen: "(Laughs.) It sounds so… ridiculous. They’re not all like this. I wouldn’t be. Father wasn’t. I suppose that was the problem."

Garrett Hawke: "I know how much you hated leaving Kirkwall."
Varric Tethras: "This is the ass end of Thedas. You know they eat snails here? Still, I think… I need to finish this out. If it weren’t for me and Bartrand, none of this would have happened. So much for changing our lives."
Garrett Hawke: "That’s what happens when you try to change things. Things change. You can’t always control how."

Garrett Hawke: "What we do know is that the mortal Divine perished at the temple, thanks to the Grey Wardens."

  • Hawke is the second cousin to Daylen Amell through Leandra.
  • It is worth noting that many of Hawke’s companions are powerful figures within the world of Dragon Age; Sebastian Vael is Prince of Starkhaven, Aveline Vallen is Guard-Captain of Kirkwall, Varric Tethras commands a large spy network and Hawke’s sister Bethany is a Circle mage.
  • Varric Tethras wrote a memoir about Hawke’s rise as Champion. The title is aptly called Tale of the Champion.
  • Like Maxwell Trevelyan, Hawke sees fearling demons as spiders, suggesting that he is afraid of spiders.


  1. Hawke is roughly 24 years old at the time of the destruction of Lothering in 9:30. Gamlen states that Leandra left with Malcolm 25 years ago and Malcolm states that Leandra was pregnant when they left. This would make him 25 at Act 1, 28 at Act 2, and 31 at Act 3.
